VIDEO: Mt. Carmel Students Become Chefs, Dancers, Videographers

At Mount Carmel School's first Innovation Day, students shelved their textbooks and pursued their passions for a day.

The Mount Carmel students left their classrooms Tuesday to channel their creativity through everything from building machines to painting Eiffel Towers.

Math teacher Tim Monreal said he had read on education blogs of other schools doing Innovations Days and thought this would be an eye-opening opportunity for Mount Carmel students too.

“We wanted to show kids that learning is not confined to paper and pencil,” Monreal said. “Education can be grossly out of touch with what we do in the real world.”

Through creating documentaries with iMovie, students were able to tell stories through a different medium and baking taught students a very precise science.
