1. Board of Trustees addresses concerns with 2026 district-wide Clery Act report (viewpointsonline.org) — Riverside Community College District leaders just reviewed a three-year Clery Act crime report, highlighting that Riverside City College logged 16 reportable incidents in 2025, including drug and weapons violations. Trustees questioned rising drug cases and arrests involving outside agencies like Riverside Police and the Sheriff's Office. The next public board meeting is set for Sept. 15 at the district office on Market Street in Riverside. 
2. Heat advisory for Riverside County Mountains and San Diego County Mountains (sacbee.com) — A heat advisory is in effect from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening for the Riverside County Mountains, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and warm overnight lows. The National Weather Service warns that limited nighttime cooling could increase the risk of heat-related illness. Riverside residents heading into nearby mountain areas should plan for extra water, shade, and cooler indoor breaks.
3. Daniel Romo Jr. Killed, 2 Injured in Riverside Wrong-Way Accident on 91 Freeway (pacificattorneygroup.com) — A deadly wrong-way crash on the eastbound 91 Freeway near University Avenue in Riverside killed 59-year-old Daniel Romo Jr. of Moreno Valley and injured two other drivers. Lanes and on-ramps near University and 14th Street were closed as CHP and emergency crews responded, and investigators are still working to understand how the westbound SUV entered the eastbound lanes.
4. Riverside man allegedly stabs with scissors mom, dad, sister before his arrest (mercedsunstar.com) — Riverside police arrested a man after his parents and sister reported he attacked them with scissors during a late-night argument at a Filmore Avenue home. Officers arrived to find relatives restraining him; all three victims were hospitalized with minor injuries, and the suspect was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
5. Where will the next major earthquake strike – scientists now have an answer (rollingout.com) — Researchers at UC Riverside have created a new method that pinpoints which sections of major subduction-zone faults are most likely to produce the next big earthquake, even though it can't predict when they'll strike. Tested successfully on a 2025 quake in Russia's Kamchatka region, the model could guide smarter building standards and disaster planning worldwide. For Riverside residents, it's a reminder of the cutting-edge seismic science happening in their own backyard.
