1 Dead, 2 Critically Injured In Oakland House Fire

Four adults and two children lived in the house. Some were trapped inside the burning home when firefighters arrived.

One person has died and two others were critically injured in a two-alarm house fire that broke out late Tuesday night in Oakland, a fire spokeswoman said.

According to Battalion Chief Tracey Chin, at 11:18 p.m. Oakland fire officials received a report of a fire at 767 Calmar Ave. in the city's Lakeshore neighborhood. The house was occupied by four adults and two
children.

Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the house and two residents outside suffering from smoke inhalation. Three more residents, including the two children, then evacuated the home, Chin said.

Another resident was trapped inside, but was later rescued from the second floor, Chin said.

According to Chin, one of the residents died and two others are in critical condition. All three are adults and related, Chin said.

Firefighters managed to take control of the blaze at 11:57 p.m. and there was no extension into neighboring houses, Chin said.

All the residents have been displaced, Chin said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
