4 DUIs, 2 Crashes Logged In 24 Hours In 1 Sonoma County City

"If you're going to go out and drink alcohol, designate a sober driver or share a ride," police said.

PETALUMA, CA — In less than 24 hours, four DUI arrests, plus two related accidents, were reported Sunday to Monday in Petaluma, prompting police to remind locals not to drink and drive.

Four Petaluma residents, ages 22 to 44, were pulled over and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence from Sunday at 1:46 a.m. to Monday at 12:57 a.m., the Petaluma Police Department said. Two of the foursome also were involved in accidents, including a crash into a tree and getting stuck on a median, authorities said.

Sunday at 1:46 a.m.: Eriberto Carreno-Gomez, 22 from Petaluma, was stopped by officers after he allegedly was driving with headlights off on East Washington Street at Edith Street. Police conducted a DUI check and determined he was impaired. He was arrested for suspected DUI and later released on a citation to appear in court, the department said. Carreno-Gomez had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .14 percent, officials said.

Sunday at 6:55 p.m.: After a solo-vehicle crash into a tree near Magnolia Avenue and Elm Drive, Manuel Pablo Ortiz, 44 of Petaluma, was arrested for suspected DUI, taken to jail and his vehicle was towed. Ortiz had a BAC of .24 percent, police said.

Monday at 12:23 a.m.: Javier Reyes, 43 from Petaluma, was pulled over and arrested for suspicion of impaired driving after an officer allegedly saw him nearly collide into center traffic delineators on Keller Street. Reyes' BAC was .14 percent, and he was booked and later released on a citation to appear in court, officials said.

Monday at 12:57 a.m.: Juan Antonio Gomez Amador, 27 of Petaluma, got stuck after he "high centered" his vehicle on the median on North McDowell Boulevard and Old Redwood Highway, police said. Gomez Amado admitted to being behind the wheel, was arrested for suspected DUI, with a .22 percent BAC, and was subsequently released on a citation to appear in court, the agency said.

It is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more in California.

"Plan ahead if you’re going to go out and drink alcohol, designate a sober driver or share a ride," Petaluma police said, adding that drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
