5 Women Found In Sonoma County Human Trafficking Operation

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Local, federal, and nonprofits fanned out to identify possible victims and connect them with support services.

The Five women were contacted, offered services, and released during a multi-agency human trafficking operation in Santa Rosa that officials say focused on identifying exploitation and steering vulnerable people toward help.

Authorities said the operation underscored a victim-centered strategy aimed at combating exploitation rather than making arrests.

The April 22 operation, led by the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, involved detectives working alongside the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Petaluma Police Department, the FBI, the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.

Victim advocates from Verity were on hand during the operation to provide support and resources for people seeking to leave dangerous or coercive situations.

Officials said the effort centered on cases where commercial sex may involve force, fraud, coercion or minors, conditions that can constitute human trafficking under the law.

Police said the operation also advanced the work of the Sonoma County Human Trafficking Task Force, which coordinates investigations while pursuing services and long-term support for survivors.

Santa Rosa police said similar operations will continue as agencies work to identify traffickers and disrupt exploitation networks.
