"The No. 1 citation issued was failing to yield to a pedestrian within a marked crosswalk," a police sergeant said.
ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Traffic Unit issued 54 citations Wednesday in a pedestrian traffic enforcement operation.
"The focus was to educate and enforce the vehicle-code violations that contribute to collisions involving pedestrians," said Rohnert Park DPS Sgt. Jerrod Marshall.
Community service officers were dressed in plain clothes Wednesday as they crossed the street at various crosswalks.

Some of the intersections included Snyder Lane at Rosanna Way, Enterprise Drive at Hunter Drive next to the Senior Center, Golf Course Drive at Hacienda Way and Golf Course Drive at Halcyon Place.
"The purpose was to ensure drivers are yielding to the pedestrians within the crosswalk," Marshall said. "Officers also spent time at Snyder Lane at Southwest Boulevard enforcing laws that pertain to pedestrians in an intersection when the sign displays 'No Walk.'"

Officers stopped a total of 34 drivers, 19 pedestrians and two bicyclists.
Everyone who was stopped received a citation, with the exception of one driver.
"The No. 1 citation issued was failing to yield to a pedestrian within a marked crosswalk," Marshall said.
"The Traffic Unit would encourage all motorists to stop at crosswalks take the extra few seconds and allow the pedestrians to get across the crosswalk," he said. "We would also encourage all pedestrians to safely cross the street."
Wednesday's pedestrian traffic enforcement operation was paid for with funding from the Office of Traffic Safety as part of a grant awarded to the city of Rohnert Park.
