More than 2,000 bike riders participated over the weekend in the Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride 2016 two-day cycling fundraising event for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The annual event was staged at the Sonoma Mountain Village complex near Sonoma University in Rohnert Park, where several huge white support tents dotted the landscape. Several courses options were mapped out over the North Bay that covered 20-, 50-, 82- and 100-miles rides on Saturday with 40- and 75-mile adventures for the Sunday cyclist.

Serious riders started their "ride out," heading onto the course, at 7:15 a.m. from the Cow Palace in San Francisco for the 82-mile and 100-mile treks across the Golden Gate bridge and up the coast to the wine country, ending at the Rohnert Park biking village that also included showers on a pair of semi trucks.

Many bikers took advantage of the overnight camping options setting up tents in an adjacent field, with others using motorhomes and trailers in a nearby parking lot.

The National MS Society event helps raise $2.6 million every year to support programs and services that help people affected by MS.

Many corporate groups were showing their colors, as well, with custom riding jerseys and pants, including PG&E, Wells Fargo, Dignity Health and SalesForce, to name a few.
