BMW Driver Crashes Into Subway Shop; DUI Suspected: Santa Rosa CHP

BREAKING: A CHP officer tried initially tried to pull over the gray 2005 BMW 325i for speeding on southbound U.S. Highway 101.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A Santa Rosa man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and evading police after he crashed his BMW into a Subway sandwich shop early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A CHP officer tried to pull over a gray 2005 BMW 325i for speeding on southbound U.S. Highway 101 around 1 a.m., CHP Officer Juan Leon said.

The driver, identified as Antonio Horacio Nunez Martinez, 33, of Santa Rosa, failed to stop and exited the highway at College Avenue in Santa Rosa, Leon said.

The officer saw the BMW turn west on College Avenue but discontinued the pursuit when the BMW disappeared from sight, Leon said.

The officer notified Santa Rosa police, who found the BMW five minutes later crashed into the Subway shop at the Arco gas station on College Avenue, according to Leon.

Police later found Martinez walking in the area of College Avenue and Maxwell Drive just west of the gas station, Leon said.

Martinez was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of evading police, hit-and-run, DUI and driving without a license, Leon said.
