Cotati-Rohnert Park Voters Pass Renewal of Parcel Tax to Fund Schools

One of two parcel tax measures in two Sonoma County school districts appears to have passed, according to complete unofficial election results Tuesday.

Voters in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District approved Measure B, the renewal of an existing $89 annual parcel tax for eight years starting July 1, 2017.

The measure needed two-thirds approval and narrowly passed with 68.2 percent.

The tax revenue will go toward maintaining reading, writing, math and science programs, attracting and retaining qualified teachers, keeping libraries open and preparing students for college and careers.

Voters in the Wilmar Union School District in Petaluma rejected Measure C, the extension of a $50 annual parcel tax for eight years starting July 1, 2016.

It also needed two-thirds approval but received 61.9 percent.

The tax revenue was slated for keeping libraries open and maintaining computer, technology, reading and music programs.
