"Friendly City" Sign Work Begins

Restoration planned for Sept. 15 50th Anniversary.

The familiar was disassembled by workers on Tuesday afternoon.

The sign - an iconic local landmark for decades - is being completely restored in advance of the city's 50th anniversary celebration, which is slated for Sept. 15.

Work on the sign is expected to take between a couple of days and a couple of weeks, according to reports.

The funds for the $24,000 renovation came from the local Rotary Club, the 20-30 Club and other sources.
