Mountain Lion Captured In Downtown Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA, CA — Streets in downtown Santa Rosa were closed for several hours Monday morning as authorities attempted to corral a mountain lion that wandered into town. The creature was first spotted at about 4:30 a.m. Monday near Macy's on 5th and B streets at Santa Rosa Plaza mall.

Police and state wildlife officers responded and tried a tranquilizer dart on the mountain lion which briefly calmed the animal but it again became active, The Press-Democrat reported.

For several hours, police blocked access at 5th and B streets as efforts to corral the animal continued.

At about 9:45 a.m., the mountain lion was again tranquilized and was being loaded into a California Department of Fish and Wildlife cage.

"ALL CLEAR," Santa Rosa police said at 10 a.m. Monday. "The mountain lion has been secured. B St. between 4th and 7th is now open. It is safe to come downtown."
