Rohnert Park Encourages Community To Continue Water Conservation
Sonoma Water has lifted the emergency water conservation request related to the Walbridge Fire.
ROHNERT PARK, CA — The city of Rohnert Park is encouraging community members to continue water conservation efforts although Sonoma Water has lifted its emergency water conservation request.
Sonoma Water issued the emergency request as a precaution because its water production facilities are situated along the Russian River within the fire evacuation zone.
While the facilities were never in immediate danger, the conservation request allowed the agency to maximize its water storage for its customers and ensure adequate capacity for firefighting, should it be needed, officials with Sonoma Water said in a news release.

The LNU Lightning Complex fires did not affect water quality or water deliveries, according to Sonoma Water, and the emergency request was lifted Thursday as progress was made on containment of the Walbridge Fire.
"While the fire emergency is over, the community is encouraged to continue water conservation efforts," Sonoma Water said. "The last year was one of the driest rain years on record, and water conservation is critical now and into the future."

Because of the emergency water conservation efforts, the agency's water demands dropped by millions of gallons each day.
The city of Rohnert Park commended residents for their conservation efforts.
"The response to the emergency conservation request was immediate and impressive," the city said. "Together, the community saved millions of gallons of water that allowed greater water storage for firefighting and emergency supplies."
