The driver of a big-rig that overturned on state Highway 242 in Concord Tuesday evening died from his injuries, a California Highway Patrol officer said today.
The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified the driver as 59-year-old Rohnert Park resident Francisco Navarrete.
Officers responded to a report at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday of a big-rig that crashed into the center divide just south of Olivera Road, according to the CHP. The left front tire of the truck blew out, which appears to have caused Navarrete to lose control of the vehicle, CHP Officer John Fransen said.

Once the tire blew, the truck struck the center divider and then crashed into a concrete pillar, causing the truck bed to flip over and debris to spill out of the truck, Fransen said.
Navarrete was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to Fransen.

One piece of debris struck a Mercedes-Benz that was traveling in the same direction as the big-rig, but Fransen said the Mercedes sustained only minor damage.
Fransen said it doesn’t appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. He said officers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
