Fireworks Spark Ballot Measure In Rohnert Park
A citizen petition to overturn the city's ban on the sale and use of "safe and sane" fireworks has sparked a special election.
ROHNERT PARK, CA —Voters in Rohnert Park will vote soon on whether to ban the sale of "safe and sane" fireworks in the city or allow sales to continue.
The Rohnert Park City Council called for a special election to be held Sept. 14 after a citizen presented a petition protesting Ordinance No. 954.

When the petition was filed with the city, the ordinance was suspended, meaning the city would not stop the sale and use of safe and sane fireworks, according to the city's "Referendum and Election Regarding Fireworks" webpage.
On May 25, the City Council examined the citizen petition and called for the Sept. 14 special election on the matter.
