Santa Rosa Shooting Suspect, 19, Identified By Police

Although a weapon was recovered, due to the violent nature of this incident, police say anyone who encounters him to not approach him.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A 19-year-old Santa Rosa man was identified Tuesday by the Santa Rosa Police Department as the suspect detectives believe is responsible for a car-to-car shooting Saturday on Corby Avenue in the Roseland area of the city. Two people — Miguel Angel Sanchez-Aleman, 20, of Santa Rosa and Crystal Angelina Sanchez-Lemus, 19, of Windsor — are already jailed on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges related to the shooting that left a man with gunshot wounds later determined to be not life-threatening.

Department Violent Crimes Investigations Unit continued their investigation over the course of the past several days and named Thomas Martinez as the suspect they have been seeking, said Santa Rosa police Sgt. Josh Ludtke.

"Police are actively searching for Martinez," Ludtke said. "Although a weapon has already been recovered in this case, due to the violent nature of this incident, if you encounter Martinez do not approach him. Police believe he is aware that he is wanted for arrest."

Police say the car-to-car shooting occurred when an argument between people in two vehicles escalated into a male in one of the cars being shot by someone in the other car.

Police received reports of gunfire in the 2300 block of Corby Avenue just before 6 p.m. Saturday; moments later, they received a report that a male gunshot victim was in a car that had pulled up to 7-Eleven, 1779 Corby Ave.
