Santa Rosa Woman Suspected Of DUI With Children In Car: CHP

Breaking: California Highway Patrol alleges the mother of two was initially spotted driving erratically on U.S. Highway 101 near Cotati.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- The California Highway Patrol arrested a Santa Rosa woman, who was
driving with two young children, on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment Friday night.

The arrest was one of 16 over the weekend in Sonoma County, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

CHP officers saw a red Ford Ranger driving erratically on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Cotati around 8:45 p.m. The truck was weaving across all lanes and the driver failed to stop, Sloat said.

The driver, Jessica Powell, 30, eventually pulled over at the Yolanda Avenue exit, and an officer found two children ages six and four in the vehicle, Sloat said.

Powell appeared intoxicated and has prior DUI convictions and a suspended license, Sloat said. She was arrested and the children were released to their father, Sloat said.
