Sexual Assault Reported Saturday Night Near Santa Rosa H.S.

BREAKING: The victim defended herself, and the suspect ran off, police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – A female was briefly sexually assaulted while walking home in Santa Rosa Saturday night, police said.

At about 10:15 p.m., police responded to the woman's report at Mendocino and Ridgway avenues, near Santa Rosa HIgh School.

The victim said that she was walking north on Mendocino Avenue when the man, a stranger described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, briefly attacked her before she got away.

The man, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds with a thin build, ran toward Nason Street, police said. Once he was out of sight, the victim called the police from her cell phone.

"The attack was very brief, and the victim was able to defend herself and get away from the suspect," police said.

The man may have had facial hair, possibly a goatee, police said. He was wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment related to the assault.
