MUSIC RETURNS TO MOUNT TAMALPAIS: "Sound Summit" brings live music back to Mount Tam on Saturday, September 19, 2015

Live music is returning to Mount Tamalpais with Sound Summit: A Benefit for the Mountain on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from 11am – 7pm at the historic Mountain Theater, a 4,000-seat natural stone amphitheater set high atop Mount Tam with stunning views of San Francisco Bay. Sponsored by Roots & Branches Conservancy and produced by Michael Nash, the executive producer of Mount Tam Jam in 2013, Sound Summit will feature the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Dr. John and The Nite Trippers, The Mother Hips, Portland Cello Project, and The Mother Truckers.

“As its name implies, Sound Summit is an intentional double-entendre – at once a musical gathering and an image of a strong and whole peak,” says producer Michael Nash. “One exists to help sustain the other.”

Sanctioned and supported by Mount Tamalpais State Park, Sound Summit’s goal is to raise funding for and awareness of the mountain’s needs. “Most of the work it takes to keep the mountain safe and seemingly untouched by the modern world tends to escape our general focus, but it is a concerted and ongoing effort, deserving of our attention and support,” adds Nash.

Sound Summit retains Tam Jam’s warmly embraced spirit, structure, and intention to create an annual celebration of the mountain and evolve a sustainable revenue source. “We feel Sound Summit is a well-wrought, creative and dynamic gesture of support for a very special place in the neighborhood,” says Nash. “It is as much a community spirit as it is a community event.”

Sound Summit features musical performances by the following artists:

About Roots & Branches Conservancy

Founded in 2014, Roots & Branches Conservancy is dedicated to the conservation of natural resources, both physical and cultural. Those resources can range from old growth forests to indigenous musical forms and oral traditions. Towards that end, its goal is to create intersections between the environment and the arts beneficial to their mutual preservation and evolution.

Its flagship event, Sound Summit, offers a unique forum in which artistic resources are brought to bear at the very environmental resource they serve to support. With breathtaking vistas of the local watershed, the endless Pacific, and San Francisco Bay, Mount Tam is the natural gem of the local landscape and the heart of Marin. Beloved by generations, Mount Tamalpais State Park is a 25,000-acre state park in Marin County with more than 60 miles of hiking and biking trails that in turn connect to more than 200 miles of trails in neighboring parklands.
