Voting Slow in Sonoma County - What's Your Excuse?

Sonoma County voting turn-out was among the lowest in recent years, so we're asking Patch readers why they voted - and why they didn't.

According to Sonoma County Registrar Janice Atkinson, the voting turnout yesterday was among the lowest in years.

Her comments were reported in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, which went on to quote her as saying the turnout was "dismal."

"They're just dribbling in,” she said, standing by her earlier forecast that 50-53 percent of the county's registered voters would turn in their ballots.

The most walk-in voters at any precinct was 148, she said. Some precincts have more than 2,000 registered voters.

The low voter turnout may have affected some closely watched races locally, and the releatively large number of vote-by-mail ballots yet to be counted could change some results, such.
