Weapons, Drugs, Suspected Explosives Uncovered In Camper After Shooting In Sonoma County
Suspected bomb-making materials, firearms, and drugs were reportedly found after responding to a reported shooting in Windsor.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man's arrest on firearm and drug charges escalated into an explosives investigation after detectives uncovered evidence that he researched and tried to obtain materials used to make explosives, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation began when Sonoma County deputies and the Windsor Police Department responded July 3 to the 1100 block of Windsor River Road after receiving reports that a tenant had fired a gun into the ground.
Deputies detained Ryan Carter, 39, of Windsor, and while securing the property discovered a laboratory containing chemicals and glassware they believed could be used for making explosives or manufacturing drugs.

The Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and Bomb Unit responded and served a search warrant at the residence.
Investigators arrested Carter on felony charges of possessing an assault weapon and suspected drugs while armed. He also faces misdemeanor charges of discharging a firearm, possessing drugs, and possessing drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff's Office Bomb Unit obtained a second search warrant after examining Carter's cellphone, which allegedly revealed internet research and attempted purchases of materials needed to manufacture explosives, according to office.
On Thursday, agents with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted deputies in executing the follow-up warrant. Investigators then added a charge of possessing explosive-making material.
A judge granted a bail enhancement, increasing Carter's bail to $100,000.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Sheriff's Office did not announce whether any completed explosive devices were recovered or whether additional charges could be filed.
