Weekend Planner April 29-May 1

Are you looking for something nearby to do this weekend? Check out some of the cool things on the Rohnert Park Patch Events Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Friday:

You can choose between endless footage of the royal bride or original music by  prolific composer-professors. Featuring two world premieres, this annual event will unite six of Sonoma State's resident composers with studio faculty performers in a joyous celebration of fresh ideas and collaborative engagement. Bay Area drumset and percussion artist George Marsh will premiere his Gong Song For Doug. Marsh calls it a structured vehicle for improvisation based on the pitches of four small Chinese Chau gongs. Music technology and composition professor Jesus Contreras will unveil his new work, Buchlabot, for keyboards, electronics and multiple speaker system. Contreras promises the effect will create "a wall of sound."

If you go: The Composers Concert will b performed at Sonoma State University, 1801 E Cotati Ave, Rohnert Park in the Green Music Center Room 1028 and begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for university faculty, alumni and staff, and $8 for seniors and students.

Saturday:

 annual sale features hundreds of garden starts including Heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, herbs, zucchini, pumpkins, squash, peppers, chard, onions, cucumber, lettuce, peas, beans, house plants and much more. Seedlings are raised locally in a greenhouse. Compost is also available to bag and purchase. Used garden tools, homemade jams, honey, baked items and plant-related crafts will be for sale also.  BBQ hamburger and hot dog lunches available 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You won't be disappointed!

If you go: St. John’s United Methodist Church is located at 5150 Snyder Ln. in Rohnert Park.  The event is from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Sunday:

Join the band as they perform in their Spring Concert “Americana,” performing the music that makes America great.

If you go: The band will be performing at the 5401 Snyder Ln. in Rohnert Park.  The show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission but people 18 and under are free.
