Woman Fatally Stabbed In Sonoma County Mobile Home Identified: Police

Police said they located the victim's ex-boyfriend hiding in a water tanker truck after a nine-hour search.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing at a mobile home park last week.

Melody Borg, 40, died after sustaining injuries consistent with the use of a knife, police said.

The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. Thursday at a mobile home on the 5000 block of Taylor Avenue, west of Rohnert Park and near Stony Point Road. A caller reported seeing a man covered in blood fleeing the mobile home, according to police. A second witness went inside and found Borg bleeding and motionless on a bed, police said.

Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a nine-hour search, 45-year-old William Rufner was arrested after deputies said they found him inside a water tanker truck. The Sheriff's Office confirmed that Rufner and Borg had previously dated.

Rufner was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident before being interviewed by detectives. He is currently being held without bail.

The Sheriff's Office did not provide further details regarding what may have led to the attack.
