  1. Ms. Lahla is the best! At least that's what kids at Roseville's Maidu Elementary school think about their 90-year-old "foster grandma." Lahla Keiser has been volunteering with an AmeriCorps program that brings seniors, age 55 and better, into classrooms for tutoring help. "She tutors kindergarteners four days a week, for five hours each day. She has been volunteering for the school's foster grandparent program since 2006." And now, they're celebrating her 90th birthday with her! (KCRA Sacramento)
  2. A man's life was taken in a deadly accident on I-80 near Penryn on Friday. Police say they believe drugs or alcohol was a factor. "Donald Harmon, the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck, was driving 'at a rate of speed unsafe for slowing traffic ahead' and was allegedly using his phone" when his vehicle struck a Toyota Highlander, which then struck a Toyota Sienna. The driver of the Highlander was killed. Others in the accident sustained minor to moderate injuries. (ABC10.com KXTV)
  3. Thanks to a $175,000 grant, the Roseville Police Department will be able to increase patrols and provide new traffic safety programs. Roseville Police Spokesperson Rob Baquera said, “Ensuring our roadways are safe is a top priority. We’ll hold accountable those who break the law and put other motorists at risk.” (roseville.ca.us)
  4. Lakeside Beverages is changing hands. After a long and successful run of 28 years, previous owners Sam and Lamya Malhotra handed the reins over to new owners Linda Parisi, Jeremy Benny and family. The new owners were welcomed into the Roseville Chamber of Commerce in a ceremony on January 26. (Gold Country Media)
  5. This one is out a ways, but it might sell out, so I thought I’d tell you about it early. It’s “Tower Bridge Dinner meets the suburbs.” (For those who haven’t heard of the Tower Bridge Dinner, it’s a wildly popular dinner on the Tower Bridge in Sac, catered by a different well-known local chef each year, and you pretty much have to win the lottery to get a seat.) The Wine Down Wednesday Dinner on the Bridge is a three-course dinner that will take place on the downtown pedestrian bridge in Roseville on April 19.
