Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- Placer County nonprofit Tommy Apostolos Fund needs your help. They are looking for 600 volunteers to accompany underserved kids on a holiday shopping spree at Kohl's. Two volunteers are paired with each child and let loose in Kohl's clothing and shoe aisles armed with $150 cash that has been collected through donations and fundraising. If you can spare some time on December 3, these kids would be really grateful. Those interested in volunteering are invited to connect through the Tommy Apostolos website, tommyafund.com/kids-shopping-day. (Roseville Today)
- Vandals allegedly tore through Lincoln's Catta Verdera Country Club Friday night, damaging the golf course and stealing several items. Items stolen include several new tee markers and a full crate of practice balls. "As we move forward, motion-activated trail cams may be installed throughout our course to record any unauthorized activity after hours if this senseless behavior continues," a letter written by the country club managers and obtained by ABC10 said. The Lincoln Police Department is investigating the case. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- Roseville Firefighters Local 1592 would like to thank everyone that came out to support the Roseville Firefighters Fall Fill the Boot Event! Thanks to your generosity, they raised approximately $30,000 that will benefit the Firefighters Burn Institute as well as the Roseville Firefighters Charity Fund. (Roseville Firefighters Local 1592 via Facebook)
- I know most of you know about the Auburn Ravine Dog Park in Lincoln, but do you ever walk past the dog park to see what's behind it? There's actually a pretty stream, with an interesting history. Several conservation groups came together to create a salmon ladder in the stream, making it easier for salmon to migrate upstream. October is the perfect time to visit the stream and enjoy this oasis in the middle of Lincoln's downtown. (KCRA Sacramento)
- This bonus edition of the "One Pill Can Kill" podcast brings you into the Placer County Superior Court of California to hear remarks from the family of Zach Didier. Didier died from a fentanyl overdose and Virgil Xavier Bordner, 22, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for selling the counterfeit pill that led to Zach's death. The Didier family members and Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire also share their thoughts and feelings about the sentencing as well as continuing their mission to educate about the dangers of fentanyl.
