Foster Farms Donates 4 Tons of Turkey to Sacramento Food Bank

SACRAMENTO - Today, Foster Farms donated more than 8,000 pounds – more than 4 tons – of Thanksgiving turkey to Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, which will help feed more than 10,000 in the community this Thanksgiving. In addition to this donation, Foster Farms is donating turkey to feed more than 80,000 people in need from San Diego to Seattle through its partnerships with West Coast food banks.

Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather around a meal, yet one in seven people - one in five children - in Sacramento County are food insecure and do not know where their next meal is coming from. The food bank is calling on others to join Foster Farms and contribute turkeys, food, monetary donations and support to help local Sacramento County families in need.

“Since the pandemic began, we have seen nearly twice as many families turn to us. The need continues as a majority have yet to recover,” said Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services CEO Blake Young. “We are grateful to Foster Farms for its continued generosity, especially during the holidays. Their donation will be a hand up again this year to Sacramento families who are still struggling to make ends meet.”

The food bank is hosting its 14th annual Thanksgiving turkey drive, Friday, Nov. 12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its Family Services Campus at 3333 Third Ave., Sacramento. Monetary donations can be made online by visiting the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services website.
