You can explore landmarks like the Eagle Theatre, B.F. Hastings Building, and California State Railroad Museum, ride the Sacramento Southern Railroad, or stay aboard the Delta King riverboat hotel. Ongoing upgrades promise new play areas and improved public spaces.
   

2. New California law gives tribes role in West Sacramento Indian Heritage Center (sacbee.com) — A major new California Indian Heritage Center is moving forward just across the river in West Sacramento, with a new state law guaranteeing tribes a leading role in its operations and programming. The 51-acre site near the American and Sacramento rivers will eventually replace the State Indian Museum in midtown Sacramento, offering exhibitions, gathering spaces, trails, and Native-led cultural education for the region.
   

3. Explore Outdoors: It's not a bird or a plane. It's a flying RV! (kcra.com) — A quirky "flying RV" sculpture called "Port of Call: Earth" is waiting for you in Sacramento's Southside Park, complete with tiny alien figures and a space-themed playground. The piece, by artist Joe Scarpa, towers 20 feet high and anchors a family-friendly area that includes the Tadpole Galaxy and Spaceship Explore play zones. It's an easy, whimsical outing close to home.
   

4. West Sacramento rowing team supports cancer survivors through camaraderie and resilience (kcra.com) — In nearby West Sacramento, a rowing group called ROWsist is giving cancer survivors and patients a powerful outlet on the water with the River City Rowing Club. Local women share how practices twice a week help them regain strength, focus, and community as they navigate surgeries, chemotherapy, and ongoing treatment, all under a shared motto to "row for life."
   

5. New trend of hosting lectures in bars brings unique social experience (kcra.com) — A new series of "Common Knowledge Bar Lectures" is turning Sacramento bars into casual classrooms where people can share a drink while learning from expert speakers. Organizer Zac Miller says the goal is to build in-person community around big ideas, and recent talks have sold out quickly. Tickets for upcoming Sacramento events cost about $35 and are available online.
