Menacing Mesocyclone Over Sacramento: Photo Of The Day
The sky above Sacramento was terrifying on Tuesday, as radar shows rotation in the clouds.

SACRAMENTO, CA — If you took a look at the sky over Sacramento at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon, you may have thought that you were in Kansas instead of California. Claus Weisemann captured this photo of a mesocyclone, defined as "a cyclonic air mass associated with a supercell; its presence is a condition for a tornado warning." Claus also snapped a radar image on his phone at the same time, with circular arrows showing the rotation in the supercell.
Thank you for sharing your images, Claus!
