Sacramento fields pitch to rethink Midtown place of worship (abridged.org) — Developers have filed an application with the city of Sacramento to turn historic Pioneer Church across from Sutter's Fort into an event space with 12 hotel rooms, signaling a major change for the Midtown landmark. The century-old building, home to a congregation dating back to 1849, remains for sale as more than $23,000 in city fees must be paid soon to keep the proposal alive.

2. Schiff, Padilla to investigate ICE visits to Sacramento law office and non-profit (abc10.com) — ICE agents recently visited a Sacramento law firm in Natomas and the Wind Youth Services shelter, prompting U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla to seek explanations. Sacramento City Councilmember Lisa Kaplan and local leaders are questioning the unannounced visits and emphasizing that local organizations will require warrants before allowing federal agents inside, raising important concerns for immigrants and service providers in the city.

Newsom supports California regulators' approval of new replacement tire rules (kcra.com) — Sacramento drivers should know California has approved new energy-efficiency rules that will phase out many replacement tires starting in 2029, with Gov. Gavin Newsom backing the move for long-term fuel savings. The rules could eliminate about 70% of tires now sold in the state, and the decision has already sparked political pushback, including a protest in downtown Sacramento led by gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.

4. West Sacramento police seek information on November 2024 homicide investigation (kcra.com) — West Sacramento police are asking residents for any information about a November 2024 homicide at a homeless encampment near the railroad tracks behind 975 F Street, where a 46-year-old man later died at UC Davis Medical Center.
