• Update: Nearly fully contained - Grant Fire in Sacramento County at 95% (sacbee.com) — A small wildfire along Grantline Road and Glory Lane in Sacramento County is now 95% contained after burning 18 acres, according to Cal Fire. Fire crews have largely boxed in the Grant Fire's perimeter, though a small portion remains uncontrolled, and investigators have not yet determined a cause. Officials emphasize that high containment does not mean the fire is fully out.

• Elk Grove emphasizes rider safety as new e-bike rules take shape (kcra.com) — Elk Grove just tightened rules for e‑bikes and other electric devices, generally banning them from sidewalks while keeping a 15 mph limit on city trails. To help riders adjust, the city teamed with Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates for a kids' bike rodeo focused on hand signals, traffic rules, and sharing space safely. Police say education, backed by enforcement when needed, will guide the rollout as e‑bike‑related calls surge.

• West Nile virus activity in California at five-year high (dailydemocrat.com) — From Sacramento, state health officials warn that West Nile virus activity across California has climbed to its highest level in five years, with 30 human cases and three deaths reported so far. Surveillance has detected the virus in mosquitoes, birds, and other animals in dozens of counties, and Yolo County recently confirmed a serious human case. Residents are urged to use EPA‑registered repellents, wear long sleeves at dusk and dawn, and eliminate standing water around homes.
