Murals of Dolly Parton, Bluey and more adorn Fremont Park for 'Chalk It Up' festival (sacbee.com) — Fremont Park is buzzing this Labor Day weekend as the free Chalk It Up festival fills Sacramento's sidewalks with murals, live music, and kids' art through Monday. Around 200 artists are creating everything from cartoon tributes to pro-education messages, with SacRT offering special fare-free transit, nearby bike valet, and discounted parking to make getting there easier.
   

2. Spike strips, K9 used during police chase in Sacramento; 1 arrested (kcra.com) — A reckless driving stop in downtown Sacramento turned into a police pursuit that wound onto the freeway and back into city streets before ending near Sutterville Road and 24th Street. Officers used spike strips and a K9 to apprehend the suspect, who was taken to the hospital, leaving nearby residents to see a heavy law enforcement presence as the case is reviewed.
   

3. Two injured in shooting in Sacramento County, sheriff's office says (kcra.com) — Early Saturday morning, an adult man and a boy were shot on Orange Grove Avenue in Sacramento County, but both are expected to survive, according to deputies. The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing, so residents near the area may continue to see law enforcement activity while detectives work to determine what happened.
   

4. Ex-Kings voice Grant Napear could take lawsuit over 2020 firing to US Supreme Court (sacbee.com) — Sacramento sports fans may see former Kings broadcaster Grant Napear take his firing dispute all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court after a federal appeals court upheld his dismissal over an "All Lives Matter" tweet. Judges agreed his employer could enforce its social media policy for public figures, while his attorney considers further appeals. The case highlights ongoing tensions around speech, employment, and local sports media.
   

5. Sacramento County rangers warn of risks for Labor Day river visitors (fox40.com) — If you're heading to Sacramento County's rivers this Labor Day, rangers are urging you to wear a life jacket and leave alcohol at home, both on the water and on shore. Regional Parks staff are patrolling spots like the American River's San Juan Rapids, offering free life vests at many parks and stressing hydration and safety for the busy holiday.
