California lawmakers approve bill to give Native Americans more say on state land (sacbee.com) — State lawmakers have approved Assemblymember James Ramos' bill giving Native American tribes stronger protections for religious practices on California state land, following earlier comments he made to The Sacramento Bee in Sacramento. The measure would require tribal consent for state projects affecting sacred sites and allow tribes to sue agencies, and now awaits Gov. Gavin Newsom's decision by the end of September.
