1. Human remains from nearly 80 burials found at UC Davis Health Sacramento campus (kcra.com) — Construction at UC Davis Health's Sacramento campus uncovered human remains from 77 previously unknown burials tied to the old Sacramento County Hospital cemetery. The remains are secured while officials follow legal and archaeological protocols, and residents with questions are invited to contact UC Davis Health by Nov. 3. Earlier remains from the same area were reburied at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sacramento.

2. Sacramento top stories: Becerra's campaign, Loloee's trial and a new record store (sacbee.com) — Sacramento readers get a snapshot of three big local storylines: a governor's race featuring Xavier Becerra, the ongoing federal fraud case tied to former Sacramento councilmember Sean Loloee, and a new Fat Elephant Records shop opening at the Folsom outlets. Together they highlight how state politics, courtroom drama, and small-business growth are intersecting around Sacramento right now.

3. Update: Nearly fully contained - Clay Fire in Sacramento County now at 95% (sacbee.com) — A small wildfire dubbed the Clay Fire burned 15.9 acres near Clay East Road in Herald but is now 95% contained, according to Cal Fire. Crews have largely boxed in the flames in southeastern Sacramento County, though a small portion of the perimeter remains unsecured and the cause is still under investigation. Residents should remain aware but can be reassured the fire is nearly under control.

4. Convicted rapist re-arrested for parole violation after being found with OTC meds, rubbing alcohol (kcra.com) — Sacramento County officials recently re-arrested convicted rapist Lloyd Edwards during a parole compliance check after finding over-the-counter medicine and rubbing alcohol that violated his parole terms. He was referred to Alcoholics Anonymous and released from county jail Monday, raising questions about supervision of high-risk parolees now living in the county.

5. Newsom signs bill requiring human trafficking training at California colleges (kcra.com) — A new state law will soon require all California colleges receiving state aid, including Sacramento State, to train employees to recognize and report human trafficking and clarify which police agency handles serious crimes. Authored by Sacramento Assemblymember Maggy Krell, the measure mandates annual training and better documentation of cases by July 2027, aiming to give students and staff clearer tools to support potential victims.
