(comstocksmag.com) — A massive $597 million Harvest Water project will soon send recycled water from SacSewer's EchoWater plant near Elk Grove to more than 16,000 acres in southern Sacramento County, aiming to cut groundwater pumping and raise aquifer levels. Local ranchers expect similar water costs but less well use, while experts say the project could ease land subsidence, support wildlife habitat, and potentially spur new development pressures.
   

2. New $42M Sacramento light rail station opens 4 months early (abc10.com) — A brand-new Dos Rios light rail station is now open in Sacramento's River District, giving riders a faster, more frequent option on SacRT's Blue Line and replacing Route 33 in two weeks. Trains will run every 15 minutes during peak hours, helping commuters reach downtown, Cosumnes River College, and other key destinations more safely and conveniently.

Newsom signs next of kin hospital notification bill into law (kcra.com) — A new California law taking effect January 1, 2027 will penalize hospitals that delay notifying next of kin after a patient's death, prompted by failures at Dignity Health hospitals in the Sacramento area. Authored by Assemblymember Maggy Krell of Sacramento, the bill sets daily fines and strict two‑day deadlines to contact families or county officials so others don't endure similar painful delays.
   

4. Ukrainian immigrants in Sacramento face uncertainty as TPS deadline approaches (kcra.com) — Ukrainian families living in Sacramento under Temporary Protected Status are anxiously watching an October TPS deadline that could disrupt their jobs, housing, and kids' schooling. Local sponsors and advocates describe confusing federal guidance that leaves residents in legal and employment limbo, even as a bipartisan group of senators pushes for an extension. If you or neighbors rely on TPS, this uncertainty could affect daily life soon.
   

5. Convicted rapist re-arrested in Sacramento County released from custody (kcra.com) — A convicted rapist previously sentenced in Butte County was recently re-arrested in Sacramento County for alleged parole violations and has now been released from custody.
