Police ID Body Of Missing Petaluma Teen Recovered From River

Rescue teams began searching for the missing 19-year-old on Saturday, officials said.

FLORISTON, CA — The body of a missing 19-year-old man who was recovered from the Truckee River in Nevada County was identified on Monday, officials said.

The body was identified as Brian Marcellino Gallardo, of Petaluma, who went missing after he entered the water on Saturday. He was located by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office divers on Monday, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

Multiple agencies searched for Gallardo on Saturday, including the use of K9 teams, drones, helicopters, swift water rescue teams, rescue swimmers, and ground searchers on foot, according to the NCSO.

"The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office recognizes this incident as a profound loss of a young man, and the deep loss experienced by his family and friends. Drownings are especially difficult incidents, often unfolding quickly and leaving a lasting impact on families, responders, and the community," officials said.

Officials reminded the public that river conditions are currently fast-moving, cold, and dangerous to get near. They urged everyone to use caution around waterways, stay aware of changing conditions, and take appropriate safety precautions when near or in the water.
