Sacramento Veteran & Service Dog Honored for #StillServing Community

Sacramento veteran Shela Webb-Magee and her service dog Maggie are being honored for dedication to country and community in the VFW #StillServing campaign. The national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing (vfw.org/stillserving) campaign recognizes veterans who continue to serve in their community after the military.

A US Navy veteran, Webb-Magee and her service dog Maggie are #StillServing by working with homeless veterans in the Sacramento area. Together the team attends outreach events, conducts case management and counsels homeless veterans through Volunteers Of America Northern California and Northern Nevada. Webb-Magee says Maggie makes it possible for her to engage in activities and with people that might otherwise be triggering. When out in the community, Maggie can sense if Webb-Magee is becoming anxious and will encourage her to take a break.

Webb-Magee is #StillServing because when she was medically retired after 22 years in the service she still felt the call to serve. She credits Maggie with enabling her to carry out her mission and says that helping others has ended up helping herself just as much.
