Shri Ram Navami – Let’s Celebrate His Values

Ram Navami falls on the ninth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra (April/May) and coincides with Vasant Navratri which starts with Hindu Calendar New Year. or Chait Durga Puja. Thus, in some regions, the festival is spread over nine days.

Shri Ram is revered as the epitome of righteousness and a symbol of moral uprightness. His life story teaches us the values of courage, perseverance, self-control, and humility. His adherence to truth and fairness makes him a role model for leaders and people in positions of power. Shri Ram's emphasis on the importance of family values and duties reminds us of the significance of our relationships and responsibilities towards our loved ones. His message of unity and brotherhood promotes social harmony and coexistence in a diverse society.

Shri Ram Rajya is extremely renowned as an ideal kingdom. Ram Rajya is where the nation or kingdom is run by the principles of Vedas depicting righteousness, just, equality, harmony, and happiness. Maharshi Valmiki depicts the significance and excellence of Shri Ram Rajya in Yuddha Kanda of his Ramayan as:

Na Paryadevan Vidhavaah Na Cha Vyaalakritam Bhayam ।

Na Vyaadhijam Bhayan Vaapi Raame Rajyam Prashaasati ॥ 6-128-99

While Shri Ram was ruling the kingdom, there were no (war) widows to lament, nor there was any danger from wild animals, nor any fear born of diseases.

Overall, he inspires us to be an ideal son, ideal brother, ideal friend, ideal leader, ideal warrior, and ideal ruler. He believed in equality, symbiosis, and coexistence, which is proven by the fact that he was helped by animals and tribes in his battle with evil.
