• Monterey County supervisors reject Flock Safety deal, order cameras to be removed (kingcityrustler.com) — Monterey County supervisors have ordered the Sheriff's Office to end its Flock Safety license plate reader contract and remove 63 cameras, affecting patrol coverage that includes the central Salinas area. With only about eight deputies on duty countywide at a time, officials warn investigations around Salinas could become slower, while privacy advocates celebrate the rollback.
   

• Salinas to declare local emergency ahead of El Niño (ksbw.com) — Salinas officials are moving to declare a local state of emergency to get ahead of potentially severe El Niño storms, with the City Council set to review the plan Tuesday. Leaders will outline drainage work, possible road closures and shelters, staffing plans, and bilingual public information so Salinas residents can better prepare their homes and neighborhoods for heavy winter rains.
   

• Cabrillo football fades after strong start against Los Medanos (fresnobee.com) — High school cross country runners from Salinas shined at Toro County Park, where Pacific Collegiate's Iris Paten won the Monterey Bay Invitational and Alisal's Yaretzi Cornelio finished second. The roundup also covers Cabrillo football, local water polo, volleyball, flag football, and UCSC women's soccer results from the weekend.
