Three more county residents have died from COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, bringing the regional death toll to six.
SAN DIEGO, CA — The coronavirus-related death toll continues to rise in San Diego County. Three more county residents have died from COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, bringing the regional death toll to six.
The three new deaths include a man in his mid-50s and a man in his early 80s, according to Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer.
Additionally, a 25-year-old San Diego man who was in self-quarantine in the Coachella Valley has died, Riverside County health officials announced Friday. The body of the pharmacy technician, who had no underlying health conditions, was discovered Wednesday at a La Quinta residence where he was staying. An autopsy confirmed he had COVID-19.

In addition, an 86-year-old man who was a passenger on the Grand Princess cruise ship and was in federal quarantine at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar died Thursday night at a San Diego-area hospital, officials said. He was not a county resident, so his death will not be reflected in the region's numbers.
In total, six county residents have died from COVID-19. The three other deaths involved a man in his 70s who died in Santa Clara County, a 76-year-old man with underlying health conditions and an 87-year-old woman.

At one facility in El Cajon, staff members and residents have tested positive for COVID-19, Wooten said.

Of the people who have tested positive, 85 have been hospitalized, with 38 in intensive care.
