Average Gas Price Nears $6 In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline neared $6 Tuesday in San Diego County, while Los Angeles became the first major city in the country to reach an average gas price of $6 or more, according to gas price tracking service GasBuddy.

"In less than three weeks, the average price of gasoline in Los Angeles has surged by an average of $1 per gallon, blowing past $5 and now reaching $6 per gallon on refinery issues and Russia's war on Ukraine," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "While I'm hopeful we won't go much beyond this, there's not much light at the end of the tunnel for now."

In San Diego, the average gas price increased for the 28th consecutive day and hit another record high Tuesday. The average price went up 2.4 cents to $5.946, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price was $5.922 Monday, $5.772 one week ago, $4.744 one month ago, and $3.921 one year ago.
