Bird Flu Confirmed In San Diego County: Humane Society

SAN DIEGO, CA – Avian flu, which has been spreading throughout the U.S., has now been confirmed in San Diego County, according to the San Diego Humane Society.
A black swan from Lake San Marcos tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 on October 18, according to the organization. Since then, a Western gull and a Brown pelican have also tested positive, the San Diego Humane Society added.
As of October 12, across California there were more than 75 positive wild bird samples, 12 affected commercial flocks, 8 affected backyard flocks, and at least 626,790 birds affected in the outbreak, the organization said.
