San Diego International Airport Launches Program To Support Travelers With Autism, Sensory Sensitivities

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego International Airport on Tuesday launched a new program aimed at helping travelers with non-visible disabilities navigate the airport more comfortably.

SAN Assist is designed for passengers with autism, chronic illness, sensory sensitivities or other conditions that can make air travel challenging, airport officials said. The program provides personalized support and resources to reduce stress and improve the travel experience.

Services include one-on-one travel guides to help passengers navigate the airport and familiarization tours that allow travelers to practice navigating the airport in advance.

"We are very proud to offer our SAN Assist program to help all travelers feel supported and welcomed at SAN," said Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, which owns and operates San Diego International Airport. "By providing personalized assistance and advance preparation options, our goal is to help all travelers easily navigate the airport experience and ensure their experience is positive."

SAN Assist services are available in both Terminals 1 and 2.

Travel guides must be requested at least three business days in advance and are available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Tours should be requested two to three weeks in advance and are offered during standard business hours Monday through Friday. All services are provided based on availability, officials said.
