Man Sought In Brutal San Diego Parking Lot Attack (patch.com) — San Diego police are asking residents to help identify a man who allegedly beat another man unconscious in a Roll Drive shopping center parking lot, causing serious facial injuries. Investigators released a detailed description of the suspect and his dark gray Chrysler sedan, and Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for tips that lead to an arrest in this South Bay-area attack.
   

2. 8 Lizards Born At San Diego Zoo After Dozens Of Reptiles Seized At Border (patch.com) — San Diego Zoo staff are caring for eight newborn Abronia lizards whose mothers were among dozens of reptiles seized from a smuggling attempt at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The animals, found crammed in taped pillowcases and left in a vehicle for nearly a day, are being treated for dehydration and parasites, with some transferred to other zoos as federal investigators continue the case.
   

3. Argument Ends In Deadly Shooting At San Diego Home: Police (patch.com) — Residents in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood are being urged to share any information after a 28-year-old man was fatally shot inside a home on Gamma Street following an argument. Police and homicide detectives are investigating, seeking witnesses and surveillance footage, and directing tipsters to contact the Homicide Unit or San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
   

4. 12 Dogs Taken In After Fire At North County Senior Living Community (patch.com) — Residents and pets at an Escondido senior living community were evacuated after a fire, and San Diego Humane Society stepped in to care for a dozen displaced dogs. Veterinarians at the organization's Escondido campus evaluated roughly 25 animals for smoke inhalation, finding no critical injuries. The dogs, including several young puppies, are now receiving emergency boarding and care in the San Diego Humane Society system.
   

5. San Diego City Council considers guaranteeing free beach parking for residents (cbs8.com) — San Diego city leaders are weighing an ordinance that would permanently guarantee free parking at city beaches and Mission Bay Park for residents, while leaving open the option to charge nonresidents later. Supporters say the coastline must stay accessible regardless of income, while others worry that residency-based fees could hurt cultural activities and run afoul of Coastal Commission rules. A full City Council vote is expected in coming weeks.
