San Diego Unified Police To Launch Student PSA Video Contest
The SD Unified School District's Police Services Department will kick off a contest allowing students to create PSAs about reporting crime.
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Unified School District's Police Services Department will kick off a contest Wednesday allowing students to create and submit a public service announcement about reporting crime.
The department partners with other school districts, law enforcement agencies and San Diego County Crime Stoppers to oversee the "Students Speaking Out" program, which encourages students to help keep schools safer by contacting law enforcement when they see suspicious or criminal activity. The program serves some 180,000 students in the city
Students will have until midnight Jan. 31 to create a 30-second video and submit it to the contest, which is being sponsored by Hollandia Dairy, San Diego County Credit Union and Cox Communications. Students can submit videos to the contest by emailing Katherine Aud with the district at kaud@sandi.net.

The department is scheduled to announce the contest during an assembly Wednesday morning at Scripps Ranch High School to celebrate the program's 20th anniversary. The department will also unveil the Students Speaking Out mobile vehicle during the event.
