SAN DIEGO, CA — Are you a San Diego area teacher with an innovative project idea? North Island Credit Union could help fund your project.

North Island Credit Union is offering grants through its teacher grant program, the financial institution announced Monday. The grant program is available to full-time teachers in San Diego and Riverside counties, or credit union members teaching in California, looking to fund special learning opportunities for their students.

Projects should have clearly defined learning objectives tied to students' academic needs, display creativity, and benefit a significant number of students, according to the credit union.

The credit union will award 10 $500 grants to area teachers in early October for the fall program. An additional 10 teachers will be awarded within Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 15.

Since the creation of the program in 2012, North Island Credit Union has awarded $175,000 in teacher grants to benefit students across Southern California.
