Security Concern Briefly Halts Flights At San Diego International Airport

SAN DIEGO, CA — Flights at San Diego International Airport were temporarily held up Thursday after the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop due to a security-related issue.

The ground stop began at approximately 7:50 a.m. Thursday. While initially scheduled to last until 9:15 a.m., officials cleared operations to resume about 45 minutes earlier than anticipated, according to FAA officials.

Media reports indicated the order impacted flights departing for San Diego from regional air traffic control centers across the West, including Los Angeles, Oakland, Salt Lake City, Denver and possibly Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The order was expected to delay travelers by 30 minutes to one hour on average, but all operations have returned to normal, a public information officer with the airport said.

The circumstances surrounding the security issue were unclear, but travelers were advised to check for the latest flight information and extended delays.
