Early supporters of SBYC will be among those honored
April 2, 2024 – CHULA VISTA – The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) announces the 5th Anniversary Celebration for its South Bay Youth Center (SBYC), a vital resource for LGBTQ+ youth in San Diego’s South County. This momentous occasion marks half a decade of unwavering commitment to providing essential services, support, and empowerment to our vibrant community.
Honoring Our Roots and Looking Ahead
The South Bay Youth Center was founded with a vision of inclusivity, compassion, and resilience. As we celebrate this milestone, we pay tribute to community members who laid the foundation and rallied behind our cause. Their dedication has allowed us to flourish and create a safe haven for LGBTQ+ youth.

The public is invited to join the community in honoring the early supporters of SBYC:
- Nora Vargas (she/her), Chairwoman, San Diego County Board of Supervisors, will receive the Legendary Advocate of SBYC Award
- Steve Padilla (he/him), California State Senator, will receive the Legendary Role Model of SBYC Award
- Mary Salas (she/her), former Mayor of Chula Vista, will receive the Legendary Friend of SBYC Award
- PFLAG San Diego County will receive the Legendary Community Partner of SBYC Award
