San Diego Officer Killed in Shooting; Second Expected to Survive [UPDATE]

Updated: SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego police officer shot Thursday night has died and a second was injured, police announced via Twitter. Police have not yet identified the slain officer.

The injured officer is out of surgery and is expected to survive.


SAN DIEGO, CA — Two San Diego police officers were shot Thursday night in San Diego, with one suspect in custody and other possible suspects still being sought, the agency reported on Twitter.

"Their condition is unknown. Keep them in your prayers," read the tweet posted at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

The next post from the San Diego Police Department said they were actively searching for shooting suspects in the 3800 block of Boston Avenue in the Southcrest area. Residents were asked to shelter in place.

"Please stay inside and avoid surrounding area of 3800 Boston," the post advised residents.

By about 12:30 a.m. Friday, police had one suspect in custody and were still searching the area for other possible suspects.

San Diego police Chief Shelley Zimmerman was reportedly with the shot officers at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
