WANTED: Former Marine Accused of Killing Phoenix Woman in San Diego

San Diego police say Raymond "RJ" McLeod may have fled to Mexico after killing his girlfriend.

San Diego, CA — A former U.S. Marine is suspected of killing his girlfriend in San Diego, then fleeing to Mexico, authorities said Wednesday.

Detectives with the San Diego Police Department have determined that Krystal Mitchell was last seen alive with her boyfriend, 32-year-old Marine veteran Raymond "RJ" McLeod.

Mitchell, 30, of Phoenix, Arizona, was pronounced dead the afternoon of June 10 at an apartment in the 7600 block of Mission Gorge Road in the Allied Gardens community of San Diego. Authorities initially responded to the scene when a 911 call was placed stating that a woman inside the apartment was not breathing.

A news report from Arizona revealed that Mitchell was the mother of two children, 5 and 6 years old, and that McLeod was a new tenant of an apartment complex she managed in Phoenix. The two were visiting San Diego together when her death occurred, according to ABC15.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday of McLeod and announced an award of up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest.

He may be in Mexico and may have access to weapons, authorities said.

The former Marine — who goes by the nickname,"RJ"— is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 245 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on both of his arms.

Anyone with information about Mitchell's death or the whereabouts of McLeod was urged to call the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at
888-580-8477. Anonymous email and text messages can be sent via Sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward in the case.
