1 Rescued After Falling Into San Francisco Bay: Fire Officials

Fire officials reminded pier visitors to stay safe near the water's edge, especially during the ongoing Fleet Week.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Fire officials say they've rescued a person who fell into the San Francisco Bay near Pier 1 on Tuesday.

The San Francisco Fire Department said it's unclear how the person fell into the bay, but crews responded quickly and fished them out.

The person declined medical attention, officials said, but SFFD paramedics still examined them, fire officials said. Officials did not say whether the person suffered any injuries.

"As a reminder, especially during Fleet Week, please be safe near the water’s edge and be aware of your surroundings at all times," fire officials said.

San Francisco's Fleet Week started Sunday and runs through Oct. 12. The event can draw thousands to the piers each day to see aerial demonstrations and tour docked military vessels.
