1st Bait Car Arrest In San Francisco Targets Repeat Offender: Report

The first person arrested using a bait car has a yearslong criminal history that includes burglary, hit-and-run and more, according to KGO.

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police have made their first arrest as part of a new bait car initiative, KGO reported.

The department announced the campaign in August and, on Sept. 1, Robert Sonza, 26, of San Francisco, broke into two rental vehicles and a bait car, according to the outlet.

Sonza, who has pleaded not guilty and is set to go to trial Nov. 17, has a yearslong criminal history that includes car burglary, hit-and-run, and more, KGO reported, noting he was on probation during the Sept. 1 break-in.

Over 15,000 people have had their vehicles broken into so far in 2023 in San Francisco, according to KGO, although car break-ins are down 5 percent so far year-over-year.
